ARE YOU AFRAID?
I do not like spiders. My twin 9-year old boys know this and absolutely love to scare me with their fake bugs! As I was crawling into bed last night, I pulled the covers back and a big black PLASTIC spider was on my pillow. And yes, you guessed it, I jumped and screamed. Then I chased my boys down for a good tickle fight! But the one thing I forgot to do, was remove the plastic spider. When I came back to bed and pulled the covers back again, well you go ahead and fill in the blank! You might say to me "didn't you know it was plastic? didn't you see it the first time and realize it was not going to harm you?"
How many of us do this everyday? We jump and scream in our hearts with fear when we hear the latest spread of disease or rumors of terrorism in the United States. When has there not been trouble in the world? With every decade and every generation, as a nation we have had to fight for our freedom and as a people we have continued to research cures for disease. We must understand the tactic of Satan to make us cower in fear. We must prepare our hearts in faith and stand strong against our enemy. "For God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love and of a sound mind," 2 Timothy 1:7.
How do we keep from being afraid? "Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life," Proverbs 4:23. I am going to help you with some "DO NOTS" today:
#1 DO NOT entertain fear; it will rob you of your precious time and health.
#2 DO NOT gorge yourself on the scary details every day of every tragedy in the world!
#3 DO NOT invite fear into your family, the workplace, your church, or your children's lives.
What better opportunity to shine the light of Jesus and be the only one in your workplace that is not afraid? We live in this world, but in Christ, we are not of this world. Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me," John 14:1. People need the Lord. They need to see Jesus in us. We have hope in Christ, let's share that hope with our world!
